To get water, to get clay, to hunt, to forage, you still need that cart, it's either 6 times either 3 times (depending on load) faster than going happy with the hands in your pockets. And it only needs wood and wheel writhing skill to make. As soon as snake engages you, you run in a straight direction from it, cart between you. As soon as it touches the hitbox of your cart (coming from behind it, lol!), the snake gets dead, run over by the cart in front of it that it barely touched. Free snake skins.
Ah, maybe if you quest too much and play the rest of the game too few, yeah, then maybe you can get bitten by snakes. For this, all you can do is get clovers, have them in your inventory at all times (2 clovers are enough, one of them just in case you see a mouflon) and as soon as you see a horse, clover it. Then while riding, pick up a new clover when you see it to make sure you have 2, and look for a new horse. This way, you are rarely a pedestrian when you see snakes. Or carry a cart with you even when questing, to have enough space for all curios and other forageables you will meet on the way when questing.
IDK, I get bitten by a snake pretty rarely. I had 6 months or so between snake bites.
So, yes, it's a harsh wound but one that is very easy not to ever get. Brave people tend to die younger, even in games.
