Reward nonlethal PvP with new curio

Postby Tamalak » Wed Mar 06, 2019 6:31 pm

Thrill of Victory
Appears when you knock a hearthling out
Can only be studied by you
Mental weight 1/10th of defeated hearthling's int
Every day it's studied you gain 0.3% of hearthling's total lifetime LP at the time you knocked him out
Hearthling loses that much LP whenever it ticks (zero sum)
Disappears after 30 days or if the defeated hearthling dies

I've designed it not to reward alt farming. It doesn't really increase your rate of LP gain, just lets you gain it without using as many curios. So in effect you're stealing curios, not LP. If you knocked me out for example you'd get 50 LP/hr/weight from this.

This is actually is specifically good for people with alts. It allows you to lp them up, then drain it into other more important characters.

How does vassal lose LP if he has 0? He will go into negative? Or it will begin to steal his attributes?

Interesting idea, but it seems kinda abusable. I could just KO my alts for their LP.

I specifically addressed the alt abuse thing in the OP  . The curio you get is no better for the mental weight than most others. So if you're studying that you're not studying something else equally good. Alt farming would be pointless.

Not sure. Either of those would be fine IMO. Or curio could stop ticking (and stop aging towards 30 days) until vassal has LP again.

Sounds like you've got some ghetto alts. Some of us play more than one character you know.

If I knocked out the literal clone of my main it would not be a super remarkable curio. Worth the slot especially since it lasts 30 days but not overpowered. It would not increase my LP gain over time, it would just reduce my need to farm curios.

But yet again I am repeating almost word for word what I had in the OP. Do people not read or not think about what they read?

So let me get this straight.

You want a curio that gives you up to 9% of a persons TOTAL LIFETIME LP every month. Yeah, that's balanced and not abusable at all. /s

Insult me all you want, the only one having trouble reading here is you. This is stupidly overpowered. I'm all for adding a curio when we KO people, but it needs to at least be balanced and not something major factions can easily abuse with alts. Can you not see the forest through the trees?

It's the kind of mechanic that's destined to be abused even if we can't figure out exactly how. Would also lead to the hermit/noob ko-fest we've seen in previous worlds that's only fun for the 1/10 people involved who are doing the ko-ing.

My assessment is different when I math it out. But I'm not married to the particulars of this curio (or for it to be a curio at all). Really what I want is some zero-sum rewards for non-lethal PvP. And then no rewards for lethal PvP except to remove troublesome people. Maybe you have a better idea for how to implement this?
