Remove Precision Frustration of Hell Arrangement

I have been in some situation like this:

1. Sleep in harsh hearth dirts.
2. Decide I will stand it no longer.
3. Erect mighty stone building to defense from the elements.
4. Live here for a time and enjoy my shelter.
5. Try to walk through, but stumble and fall.
6. Too many item is piling up in the floor.
7. Construct container to organize these items.
8. Many items need many containers.
9. Pack them in tightly to use well my space.
10. :placegrid 1024

Placing objects close together I think is more difficult than it need to be. You must have very steady hand with high values of placegrid, or you must deal with wasted space. Maybe you can get lucky and for low values of placegrid, these objects can tile nicely. Though to even use this strategy you must know proper value per size of object and manually adjust it for each time. Also, due to how these snap points work, aligning mixed size items is still painful with this method. Additionally, I think probably needing to use some console command for normal gameplay is not ideal user experience. For some item like trellis, wasting this space is very relevant. In some case, the tediousness of this placing can be maddening to me.

I think instead of only snap to points on floor grid, there should be option to enable object to snap to other nearby object when placing. Using this, it will be very easy to align objects and pack them in as tightly as possible.

Using an odd number such as 1025 will ensure the ability to place dead center. I use :placegrid 3555. Or if it's more important to find center quickly than precision, I use :placegrid 3

Definitely! Quoted for truth.

I use a Logitech G600 gaming mouse and set button G8 to toggle low res/hi res. When I want precision placement I toggle low mouse resolution and very slowly and precisely get the item placed on my 3555x3555 per tile grid

This would be much simpler than the workarounds I use. I support this idea.

Yes, this is good advise. Selection of number 1024 is mostly joke. Usually I will not use such a high number and I think numbers higher than maybe 100 are already effectively the same, with what is feeling like no snapping.

Seems like good workaround for the men with this hardware option. I am not in this grouping unfortunately!

You should really try to put something in the center of a tile with :placegrid 3, then try :placegrid 2, before you make claims like "odd numbers will hit the center"
