Player names always visible

Postby Jazcash » Tue Mar 19, 2019 3:14 am

Not sure if this has been talked about before, but is there any room for a conversation about players having their name always above their character's head without requiring kin? I think this would have a big impact on the game for sure but I'm curious to know whether people would like this change or not.

Public realm chat always displays presentation name when you type a message, which is really nice. At the very least I'd like to see this extended to village chat, maybe also party?

It would be nice for village chat, but I'd say a hard no to having it be a constant thing. Just because someone walked by me shouldn't mean i know exactly who he is the next time

I would like to be able to see names in realm and village chat, even if you don't see their name when you meet them personally.

Maybe let people have the option to auto-present their own name in those chats? That way only people who want to opt into the name system.

I can understand the realm (especially comparing it with the public realm chat where we already see names anyway). But I am not sure I understand why wouldn't you have your village mates kinned already...

Suicide labour alts. It's fun to be able to see everyone's silly names.

After giving it some thought I actually realised I can see some reasoning behind the current system though. Public chats give you the current given name which is just a convenience. The same guy could be seen there with another name and you'd never know it's him. Forcing kinned presentation in realm/village is a bit different though. It's only for people sworn to the common entity and therefore identity is of a different importance there...
