Login immunity

Postby dullah » Mon Mar 25, 2019 11:23 am

Many online games offer this feature, a short period after login where you are immune to pvp/pve engages.
This immunity could last up to 30 seconds, and would break if moving or engaging in combat.

This would fix the pve issues where you login into an aggressive animal, and find yourself chipped down to half health before even seeing anything on your screen.

But that might happen only if you logged out in the wilderness. Which on its own was your own decision (if we are not talking power outage and stuff like that), could have hearthed home even if it was an urgent RL stuff pulling you out of the game. Logging out in the wilderness brings in additional risks. Sounds quite fair to me and IMO should not be changed. Adding more safety for resource-checking alts doesn't sound right.

I once logged into an aggressive animal that instantly aggro'd me, in the middle of my base, it wearing a dhelm and wielding a sword.
Animals (the four-legged kind) also wander through visitor gates but sadly the devs forgot to apply visitor debuff to these.

So no, it's not a problem existing only in the wilderness.

Base with open gates IS wilderness.

Imagine making excuses when you could just put roundpole fence on the inside of your ''open gate''.

No support for this.

I think a good compromise would be the ability to choose "login to hearth" at any time.

If your base isn't secured vs animals that's on you (roundpole fence inside Vgates keeps animals out and doesn't need to be locked, which is admittedly a silly workaround to the animals walking through Vgates issue).

As you missed the point: I logged in onto someone who was currently busy looting my base (no visitor gates existed back then, but brickbashing).

That was quite clear. I just tried to point out that even open gates would make your base to qualify as wilderness. The same, of course, goes to absence of (part of a) wall.

I suggested this years ago... every time it comes up, jorb and/or loftar seem pretty meh about implementing it. I'm not sure if it's more a design standpoint, if they don't like it, or what. I've just learned to accept it.
