PvP events

Postby pimotimo » Thu Mar 28, 2019 11:55 pm

Just add more of them, they are a great addition to the game and makes pvpers a reason to grind. Sailing for 5 hours to not find anyone is boring and makes pvpers end up quiting the world. The meteorite event (even tho ppl had its disconnects and other problems) was fun and enjoyable. Beside the meteorite event maybe u could make the same thing but with other stuff like curios as rewards or good gilding leafs. Or even stuff like natural resources but in more quantity so big factions will fight over them (like 100x pieces of salt or stuff like that).
cheers

+1 good idea.
In pre. world we have a motivation to fight for salt spawns. Now it's useless, i think you know why.

How can pvp events worth showing up to globally (as in have good rewards worth risking multiple characters for) not end up sliding the balance permanently in favour of the dominant faction? They will get more kills, and they will get all the loot from said events which will, by the nature of being worth going out for, further slide the power balance in their favour.

I can't help but wonder how this is possible considering what happened with the meteorite. AD now has access to deeper mines, HH does not. This will potentially deepen the difference in power between them so that HH is more likely to lose the next meteorite event as well will it not?

Well you dont have to make them super ultra OP, just good enough to make ppl go out of their walls and incentive some action

Events like the meteorite are cool, but it's a one-off occurrence with a massive reward, so naturally the biggest groups will show up and the winners "win-more". Jorb mentioned a similar idea during the stream: an item that could finish the character's current credo instantly, balanced by the fact it's a one-off occurrence, which, in the grand scheme of things, isn't a big deal. Especially compared to the meteorite, which completely snowballs industry with higher quality tools and machines.

I'd like to see more localised incentives for PvP, and the infrastructure is already there by means of localised resources, they just need tweaking a bit. First and foremost, palisades completely invalidate travelling to another faction's continent to contest their Rock Crystal/Abyssal Chasms etc. Secondly, the rewards from these simply aren't motivating enough for each individual player for them to risk their lives fighting over them.

Simple idea: Change Rock Crystal's Melee combat gilding bonus to Unarmed. Also make Rock Crystal icons globally known on the world map.

Combined with (hopefully) upcoming siege changes to make palisades off-claim more "siegeable", this could be enough of a difference to make Rock Crystals actually worth contending for all over the map. It's "win-more", but only for individual players and not entire groups, and they respawn infrequently enough that it wouldn't be snowbally. This would also open interesting interactions between allied groups that share territory; because of personal greed.

You can always trade, I'm sure AD would accept Ozzy's main for a few pieces of meteorite. I don't see this as a valid arguement

As everyone has said, balancing such events is difficult. Last world Meteorites were pretty much useless because of inflated metal qualities, but this world they will be very op because they're needed to reach lower cave levels. It'll be the same for any other event too, either they won't be able to compete with natural industry or they'll absurdly outpace natural industry.

Game is soo boring right now. World is full of big PvE villages and there is next to no benefit to having good PvP characters. Being strong or weak doesnt really translate into any kind of value. If anything people wasting time raising combat stats will just fall behind in the PvE grind. The meteor thing is clearly a popular event and successful implementation therefore it makes total sense to add more things like it.

I would like to see world resources reworked into something like meteor, an event that happens randomly and notifies everyone in the area and provides a value which makes it worth the risk. Something like loot drops or treasure chests makes sense too. Random spawn, notifies people somehow and provides reward which is worth the risk and worth the time investment of a large group.
