The palisade problem

Postby Ants » Sat Apr 06, 2019 9:22 pm

Breaking through the palisade of anyone active is hell.

First, you need an armed guard to watch the ball for 24 hours without sleeping. Good luck finding anyone who's willing to waste their entire day doing that. The ball can be taken down by naked alts and if they succeed, the guard will have to start over from the beginning. If you're trying to raid a village you might need several armed guards to avoid having one guy get gangbanged by a group of enemy warriors. If by some miracle you do manage to break through, the owner of the claim will have alt vaulted any worthwhile loot. A similar problem applies to battering rams. You need someone to guard them for 24 hours and they can be taken down relatively easily by anyone who's not a noob.

The biggest issue is that several layers of palisades is enough to turn any space into an impenetrable vault because no one wants to spend a week guarding balls or rams. Widely spaced layers also make battering rams impractical because they break down every 25 tiles.

Can you guys think of any solutions? :?

I don’t think it’s outrageous to have a drying time of 24 hours for a ram. That distance between walls? all they’d have to do is move the ram and repair it. Repair takes 1 hour and it can be moved again. The whole problem is that you have to guard it for that 24 hours. Just make them unbashable by hand for the first half of drying time. Then you only have to guard it for 12 hours.

They could bring back the legacy raiding dry times. Then add a new wound.

Ache and sores-
How it’s gotten: has a chance of happening if you commit the crime of vandalism on any object excluding containers, walls, or authority objects then you get this wound. The chance increases after each object.

What it does: Lowers your agility/strength/constitution/unarmed/melee a shit ton.

How it heals: 24 hours after the last tick of the wound was applied the entire wound will be gone.

Why they should add it: it would allow raids to happen without fear of all your shit being gone in a short amount of time. If someone wanted to destroy all your shit they’d have to come back over and over until they finally destroyed everything. Could take weeks! Fighters would have to think about what they want to destroy or they risk being killed due to their lowered stats. Vandalism Alts would be destroyed because their strength would lower as they destroyed.

I would welcome a system where a person or group of people could have 1 safe space, and others would cost more, but that's probably impossible :(

Having 1 main safe base is OK, but being able to produce many-many small camps that are just as safe as main base is awkward...

More man power = less hours that single person have to spend on guarding ram. Not to say You can just put a claim somewhere close and just then push it each hour, reducing the waiting period needed greatly.

You would need a lot of them to destroy all of someone's stuff. The wounds would take a heavy toll on a character with low constitution.

its a design choice, not a problem... siege is for big groups to coordinate and go after big targets, political enemies...

its not an RTS game where you control a whole army and go siegeing alone

Sieging is nearly impossible for big groups, too.
