Knarr: Ocean Speed

It's pretty time consuming to travel around the world from one point to another. I think the base speed of knarrs in the ocean should generally be higher, and if animals need to have their speed in water raised to compensate, then so be it. The knarrs are large ships with sails, it makes sense that they'd go faster in the ocean. Could be argued that a knarrs sails should be lowered in rivers and it should travel at rowboat speed, or that wind should have direction. But thats getting a bit more complicated than it needs to be. I've finally finished nomad, but at times I would boat for well over an hour in a straight line across the ocean. Thats absurd, and I won't say more about it.

Hah, I mentioned this to my buddy the other day that I wish you'd get a speed boost once you hit deep ocean to make traveling to other continents not such a boring part of the game.

Oceans meant to be some sort of separation, even if that separation is your unwillingness to to boring travel. There probably can be more ocean-specific content added, but in no way that makes oceans just as good as going on foot on land.

Your argument against being able to go across oceans faster is that they are meant to be boring? I'm sure you can do better than that, at least come up with a valid argument. The oceans are meant to be a sort of barrier between continents, not a boring time sink. If oceans danger needs to be ramped up to make it more interesting then it should be done. Maybe a knarr should not be able to straightline across the entire world without being repaired. Hmm? It should be more costly to traverse the oceans, just not in terms of PURE TIME. These are big ass ships with sails, and they should move faster in the ocean than they do in rivers or lakes. Despite how some of you treat haven, it is a game, not a job.

if they give knars speed boots in oceans, then I think they should give it a speed reduction in river and lake shallows.

Thus null the change. I can agree to shallow water regardless of lake, rivers or oceans, but no. No speed reduction in-land since it forces people to litter beaches with docks and given how easly those are to break... Just no.

Why would that make docks more prevalent and why are they easy to break? Can they be hand-bashed? I’ve never tried to destroy one but in my opinion it seems like something that should require sieging if they are as expensive as a knarr which does require sieging to destroy.

Personally I think it makes sense that knarr would move slower in any body of water shallower than an ocean but I’m indifferent to the idea. I don’t see how it would nullify an increase to speed on deep ocean however if the knarr still moved faster on river/lake than dugout or coracle and perhaps only slightly faster than a rowboat before quality is taken in to account.
