Align taming with steel, treeplanting, silkfarming etc...

Postby DamJNeT » Tue Apr 09, 2019 6:50 pm

Allright, for the first time in years playing HnH I tried myself at taming. I knew it'd be a pain in the butt, because of one mechanic. The randomness of the taming attempt.

I literally had to wake up earlier in the morning to check on the animals, and rush back after work hoping it'll still be there. Sometimes I had to wait more than 24h between attempts, wich would screw the 12h time windows I organised around.

The point is you can't know for sure when the next attempt will be, so you're stuck with having to check out.
Out of 3, I only tamed one. And it nearly took me a full week like this.

Please consider aligning it like the other mechanics. If taming is going to take a long time, just make it that you get an attempt every 24h after it's leashed with a few hours window. And make it so you start from 0%, and get 25% each time. Or 12h and 12.5%. Anythinb but this.

Why can I plan my time exactly for all the other mechanics but this one ?

My life can't revolve around checking that my horses are ready to be tamed or risking despawning them and losing days of accomodating my agenda around this.

I almost certain that you can just check every 8 hours.
When you wake up, after work, and before bed.

The real problem is being so fucking tired in the morning that you accidentally kill your animals, or forget your rope.

Please make us auto peace when taming.

I'd rather it be a predictable thing like "You can re-tame it at any time, saves up how much taming progress you'll get up to X%", it's in line with how crops work. Or as simple as not exiting the taming window.

That said, the trick to current taming is to over tame and stop caring about individual animals. Throw 5+ of the animal you want in a taming pen, tame em when you see them pop. Eventually they all tame.

Yeah, the taming business is kind of not 24 hours away from Haven friendly.

Oh yeah, I understood that even before taming, hence why I put 3 horses in a pen, around the same hour 2 days in a row.
But still, it won't change the fact that I have to check several times a day or miss taming opportunities. I'd like to know exactly when to check, once or twice a day, and not have to resort to spamming animals.
The issue with this solution is that it could still take days/weeks of commitment for uncertain results.

Meh, idk. I don't find it to be that big of a deal.

I told you, check 3 times a day, when you wake up, when you get home from work, when you sleep. I have never had an animal run away while doing this, but it is possible that I was just lucky 40+ taming sessions in a row. I kill a lot of animals because I forget to peace them at 6 am.

If it's too much hassle, let other people do the work and trade stuff for the animals. It's easier that way and the animals you'll get will be higher q than wild ones.

Taming is only worthwhile at world start.

Well, as part of a group of 3 working adults, with no access to computers during the day and other things to do than check several times a day, we do find it a big deal. As I said, we never attempted taming before because of the time required. We can pause silk if we're away for a day or more, plan tree planting cause we know when we're going to play for 2h+, and crops just grow along.

I honnestly thought you'd see the issues I'm raising. Maybe it's only us, but I don't think so.

Why make a topic now you might ask ?

Well that's why. Check trading topics this world... I made a joke on shubla's trade topic, cause to get a horse would cost me 5000 blueberries.
The truth is most of them want tokens/pearls/local ressources. Sorry, but we're not gonna pay $$ to have access to that, and we're not botting to get the infamous pearls or ressources.

Sorry if I come as whiny, but we're just sad that progression is walled behind the randomness of the taming sessions. It just feels like we have to choose between progress or IRL on that one.

Take 6 animals of the same genre. You should be able to check on them twice a day. Before work and after work. You always have "2" chances. Unless You can't wake up those few minutes early or something...

As someone who from time to time has similar schedule to yours: it not always work, but does enough.
Also, try asking neighbours for trade.
