Survey land functionality for farming [QoL]

Postby ULGMsean » Wed Apr 10, 2019 12:51 pm

Similar functionality of survey land for digging, but this time for farming and should have new action button on Landscaping tab

  • Range could be larger than survey lands 30x30 limit
  • Not sure about the flag limit though, it could stay up to five or add more
  • Rather than "Make Level", it should be "Harvest All" instead
  • Info could show the amount of seeds or produce would be harvested
  • Info could also show sub produce of the crops (e.g. fibres, straw, etc.)
  • Info could also show average quality of the crops in range
  • Would automatically place seeds in barrels if any is inside the survey range
  • Would automatically place sub produce if any is inside the survey range

Also I know we already have shift + right click a crop to set a range for harvesting, but then again, picking up and storing the seeds on containers and produce on stockpiles still takes time.

I like QoL things. But this suggestions really takes it up to 11. Basically, it is really to make the game play itself...

Yea this has been suggested before, but you take it to an entirely new level. Surveys for farm areas would be neat, but they don't have to be so convoluted man.

I just want to see auto-stockpiling implemented for our area select harvest. Takes me almost as long to harvest as it does to pick up everything.

farming isn't much of a game as it is, I think this is a great idea and well worth implementing, farming is absolutely a snooze fest chore.

The proposal is basically an advanced farming bot. They exist for those who really "need" this. To be implemented as default functionality... Nah, it's beyond the reason if you ask me. If anything the same effort should be put into making farming more interesting, not more automated.

More human-friendly stockpiles in general is another story. But not just for farming. For everything.

People said the same thing about farming back then, too.

Farming is the worst chore right now, and I love farming. The auto-harvest addition was great, but it was only a first step in what needs to be better. I'm not sure all of the ideas presented here are good, but some are. A few are redundant with the current system... What's hard about setting up the auto-harvest select every time you go to harvest your field? Do we really need a special marker to lay out over fields to harvest?

Also, I don't so much "care" about the quality of the seeds before I harvest them because I'm just trying to get them out of the ground. I just want to be able to get the best ones to replant quickly without a lot of sorting.

I challenge you to propose something that will make farming more interesting without making it an even bigger chore to do, I promise you this suggestion will take far less effort than that considering most of the groundwork is already laid out with dirt refilling stockpiles on land surveys, and until you do come up with what I would argue is impossible, a solution to making farming interesting and not just a tedious chore, then how about we make a massive improvement that will make a majority of the playerbase happy?

I challenge you to propose something that will make farming more interesting without making it an even bigger chore to do,
simple: give the mass harvest a mode where it'll auto-replant the highest quality seed of the harvested plant in inventory after harvesting the tile and in case the inventory doesn't have the free space to take the seeds (or carrots/beets/onions/...) that'll be harvested from the tile auto-drop some the lower quality seeds from the harvested type to make enough room.
Total duration would be the same, less clicking, sorting taken care of, only the leftovers left over to be picked up at the end.

i fail to see how this makes farming more interesting but okay, you've brought up a suggestion that is inferior in efficiency so maybe jorb will be more lenient and actually pursue it, I would rather have OP's suggestion to autofill produce stockpiles and barrels.

Sadly I can't think of anything that would make farming more interesting, but If you have it would be awesome to have it shared here tho.

Same here.

Well selecting auto harvest isn't hard, its the time you spend picking up the drops.
For the special marker, well since auto stockpiling was a thing for survey land in digging and is a system that already exists, I just suggested it to be similar as that one.

Then again I could just have my slaves, er I mean friends  to help pick them up.
