Suggestion: Game Development: Cattle Papers

Postby Bolillo » Fri Apr 12, 2019 6:33 pm

Thought i would present the idea with a familiar format :ugeek:

We've been developing, and here's what's new.

Image

New Implementations
-----------------------
  • You may now write down all information of livestock into a piece of parchment. Just right click the animal while holding a parchment. Thought it would be interesting to assist in livestock trade, as livestock info can be placed in barter stands.
  • Livestock papers display if the animal is deceased, in the not so uncommon case someone doubts the legitimacy of the vendor.
  • Added a new bird.

As always, if you liked what we did here: Support the patch.

Today's Patch Item, for the fair price of $10, is the "Cowbell".

Store Description wrote:Image$10 Guess what? I got a fever, and the only prescription is more cowbell!

No one has received the Cowbell free of charge to reduce the noise pollution that will unavoidable ensue.

In the Pipe
-----------------------
  • Small patch, as we've begun working on something bigger. Might be a while.
  • The main dev focus is the client rendering rewrite.
  • Considering: Quest mechanics, siege mechanics, and the potential change to make Rage characters identifiable as such.
  • Time to... like us on Facebook?

Enjoy!

The problem is this doesn't allow us to sell the livestock more easily. You could just write it down on paper yourself. People can still only get the animal by buying a glass key from you (without seeing the stats of the particular animal they bought, only what you claim its stats are), or from direct trading which is a hassle and why we don't do it too often.

Seems about right, adding more pointless stuff into the game instead of using that time to fix broken things / actually make the game improve.

+1...?

tbf a fair bit of the useless stuff that gets added doesn't require the same resources to fix broken stuff. Usually art vs coding/massive design changes.

I think it could be a means of trading livestock via barter stands, though. Parchment with the animal stats, "key" to leave with the animal, and rope for the leash to the animal--makes a special trading token for an animal. You could then hearth back with it or use the token to summon it to you... or something.

While in general I like idea of easier trading, this particular bit is abusable for unlimited teleporting of stuff over the whole map. Consider saddlebags or packrack.

A while ago I suggested a method of paid access with more flexibility than a glass key offers, by crossbreeding a barterstand with field cairn.

In animal trading scenario permissions would be always set to trespassing (maybe rummaging too) and paid access would enable theft.

Potentially, yes. Very easy to just say "cannot be summon when attached to anything." However, if you travel to a market to buy livestock, what's the difference between getting a horse on a leash or this item? Either way you can hearth home with it. There's absolutely zero difference.

Teleporting with animal leashed as it is now is fine. No extra item is needed for that. The issue is in checking animal before buying it. The token would not help with that.
Btw a variant of walljumping might show it's ugly head with animal summoning.

Ability to check animals over short distance and trough a gate, even2-3 tiles away would solve most problems and would also help greatly with sorting animals before culling.
Gate could be limited to <anything less than palisade>.

Fuck trading, and fuck trading animals even more.

Should be changed so if you want to move them home you need to raft them. So no across continent animal trade possible would be best. ( Remove hearthfire when leashed update)

Thread deserves hell

But that would be the whole point of the token: something that shows the animal stats and can be placed in a barter stand.
