Spices and food quality

Postby discospaceman » Thu Apr 25, 2019 5:58 pm

Currently, spices may lower the FEPs from a piece of food under what they would be normally if the spice quality is far lower than the food.

I propose spices should work like pepper, where q10 will always give a bonus, increasing with spice quality, perhaps up to a cap? Perhaps if something is an 'optional' ingredient, it should not contribute to final item quality. Either that, or you should be able to apply a spice after the item is complete to 'transform' the stats, like a clothing gild.

This would of course not be the case with items requiring spice in the base recipe, butter-chived trout, spicy salad, etc.

Thoughts are appreciated

I agree that its kind of stupid that some additional effort would lower the feps!

Do spices need a buff?

Its not about the buff.
Its more about them being useless if they reduce fep.
Think of noobs with low q pepper, but hq steaks.

I'm sure there is a way where you can balance it so higher q spices are more along the lines of base q now, or create heavy diminishing returns later.

Making them increase fep even when lower than the quality of the food would also allow noobs and hermits to mass produce spices and sell to factions. Giving them something to produce.
