Farming carrots with scythe is dumb

Not only carrots, but many other crops.

I think that scythe should only apply to barley etc. where using it makes sense.
For carrots, there should be some different tool (Shovel?) or then no tool at all.

If you look closely you will see that the scythe doesn't actually cut anything. You simply wave it above your crops and they pop out of the ground

If you look even closer you will see that hearthlings don't actually have any idea how scythe are actually used and they wouldn't even be able to harvest wheat or barely.

Perhaps, but for barley it is even somewhat logical.
For carrots, no.
