Extend the radius of Towercaps by .1

Behold the difference between the radius of a towercap and the radius of a minesupport:



The tile I am standing in would have been supported by a mine support. I mistakenly thought that towercaps had the same radius, and I was rewarded for that ignorance with a cave-in on my head.
This just highlights how poorly the current system communicates to the player about which tiles are safe or not. I understand that mining should have elements of risk, but arbitrary obfuscation of information is absolute BS.

Not against that change but until it is changed, you can try to place the towercap as close as possible to the mine wall?

Mine supports are usually placed in the tile center. Trees and towercaps are difficult to center properly. Perhaps your tower cap was one pixel off.

You can't plant towercaps or trees off-center. You could try to plant on the edge of a tile and it would still be planted in the exact center.
