Change curio lp gain

Postby shubla » Sat May 25, 2019 7:26 pm

Currently, we can have a curiosity that you put in your study, wait 5 hours, then you get 20 000 LP.
What if you would instead gain LP at rate of 1.11/second? And then the curio's durability would decrease, and it would break after 5 hours of studying.

It might be cool?

So, instead of a single 'payout' after five hours, a constant trickle or drain on the curio over five hours?

I can't say that would change much at all, or what kind of gameplay effects it would have other than perhaps having 10,000 LP to use in two and a half hours...

Sometimes, especially in early game, you are studying some thing that takes a long time.
Then you find another thing, and you want to switch, but then the time used to study that long duration thing is wasted!

So like this pretty much?

jorb wrote:Curiosities now have varying amounts of Wear, meaning that they can be used several times, losing one point of wear per use. Curiosities thus no longer use compound quality to determine their effectiveness, but rather: Substance increases the amount of Wear the item can take, Essence affects the amount of LP given per study cycle, and vitality reduces mental weight, approaching a reduction to half of base. The amount of LP given also scales linearly with the amount of wear left on the item, meaning that items give less LP per study iteration the more worn they are. Not at all sure if the amount of wear each curiosity has been assigned is at all reasonable, so feel free to suggest changes.

No.
Not at all.
They are not even remotely connected.
Did you even read the OP or/and the thing that you quoted?

ya it's the same thing pretty much the only difference being instead of several iterations of 20,000 LP at 5 hours each it's the equivalent of that given gradually over time

No, it is not.
Read the post that you quoted from jorb again.
My idea has nothing similar with jorbs post.

you're right it's actually worse because I could put on several different 1-10k+ lp/hr gems for 6 hours then take them off before the last hour finished and gild them

What if instead of losing durability, they lost the quality that represents the lp gained?

You could then study, and craft with the same items. They would have to use exp when put in your study, instead of when completed.

The EXP needed could also gradually tick away from the character.
