Specialized Building: Barn

When you get back from your vacation you just wake them up and keep going from where you left off. Cosmetically I guess it'd be nice if this worked by storing the animals in a barn or something like that.

LadyGoo wrote:IMHO, if anything, we need special fences for the animals. 5-20 animals per 1 fence + 1 special stand where you can browse the characteristics and select/buy the one you like. You need ropes in your inventory and won't be able to buy more if you do not have enough ropes. All of them will automatically be bound to the buyer.

@jorb i understand your sentiment towards new buildings is:

But I believe a stable/Barn is too specialized and unique to be fully realized with a free-form building system. Allow us to store 20 animals in individual pens within the barn and give us the ability to withdraw and access each animal's UI from outside the barn (preferably by right-clicking an object on the outside such as a barn door). Important note: the barn door/UI object shouldn't have a flower menu - Rclicking should open the animal UI with one click . Give us the ability to one click store an animal in the first open pen(rclick leash > barn) or choose which pen and animal goes in (rclick leash > barn door/UI object). Allow us to store fodder inside an object accessible from outside the barn which animals inside the barn automatically eat. Pregnant animals could give birth into the next available pen or into the "Hall" of the barn if no pen is available. Allow us to milk / shear / Mount / rope / slaughter animals by right clicking either their pen or the animal inside the pen. (Having to open gates and get bodyblocked is what we're avoiding with this qol feature, so having to physically go in the pen would render this building pointless).

While i can't wait for freeform building, the need for specialized buildings still exists. The addition of new buildings would not be marginalized by a freeform system if the new building performs a task freeform building cannot

Excellent post, +1, looked up and referenced old posts, hates flower menus, and getting blocked by animals at gates.

I just wish we had some sort of gate that blocks animals, but not hearthings, like hearthfires used to function. It made animal pens so much easier.

It's called a bench.

Can I carry a barrel/wheelbarrow/chest over my head while sitting on a bench? Or pull a cart over it?

No. It's probably a good idea to have both a bench and a gate for that. The bench system isn't perfect, unfortunately. A cattle guard would be better.

This, a bench is worthless.
