Bug net

Thoughts on the further development of Haven & Hearth? Feel free to opine!

Bug net

A tool, as further development of bugs theme. Not sure what that would do since catching insects by hand is not problematic. Perhaps a chance for a double catch? Or quality of net will influence the quality of the insect? Or bugs caught by hand will have their quality halved? Or... with a bug net one can neutralize midge swarms?

Old subject... viewtopic.php?f=48&t=44701 and not the only post about it.

May be. Unfortunately, the search does not provide any results for "bug net", either as general search or in "critique and ideas" subforum.

Search function on the forum is archaic. Add to that, it won't index anything less than a 4 character string. Google is your friend. ;)

It's a solid idea in general, and seems to be popular.

Idea was also added to Jorb's long list of forgotten ideas during a stream

I've wanted it for a long time for the link to the pasty vibe it'd give, but loftar didn't like it last time I brought it up for some reason. On my wish list.

Bug net equipped in a hand can give a speed boost when chasing bugs, like bunny slippers. Maybe flying speed of bugs need to be adjusted for this, to make not all flies catchable with bare hands in open field.
Can increase catch distance (may help with zig-zagging flies).
Can negate new invented problems with catching bugs barehanded, namely:
- not 100% chance to actually catch flying bug;
- stopping for a 0.5-1s after each attempt;
- damaging flying bug quality — replaced with capping by net Q;
- getting bitten by biting bugs.
Can be used for "fishing" for leeches without submerging your own wounds.

And this:

Of course, even a part of this being codeable would be good.

Hand - held net for catching things.

Postby levithanh298 » Sat Jul 13, 2019 8:32 am

A hand slot item that extends your range to pick up things like moths and dragonflies, and maybe a way to avoid or reduce pick up injuries from things like crabs and jellyfish.

Could make it cheap but bulky (and maybe not fit in belts) so you would have to plan to take it with you bug catching or jellyfishing, rather than just having it on you when you happen across a nice swamp or jellyfish school. My first thoughts would be a few blocks and ~20 string or 2 rope.
