adopting pets

Many players carry small animals in their inventory, so why not make it an official mechanic?

Small animals and insects could be designated as pets by right clicking on them and selecting the new option "make a pet". The animal would then follow the player around when not stored in the player's inventory or a container. Killing or stealing someone's pet would count as crimes and would only be possible if the owner was KO'd or killed. Cages could be implemented to display pets inside a house. There should probably be a maximum of one pet per person to avoid trolls intentionally lagging others to death with an army of animals. Chickens and rabbits could become pets but would lose the ability to breed or produce eggs.

Sorry if this was already suggested. I could've sworn this had been posted before, but I searched and found nothing.

Maybe this ability could be the reward for completing a certain credo :D

Oh, and one more thing: you probably shouldn't be able to use pets to craft. I can totally imagine people accidentally turning their rats into rats-on-a-stick or their monarch butterflies into bug collections. :?

Very torn on this. I could see naming them being fun, at least.

Why? It's already being done, just not very effectively. It's kind of annoying to carry a seagull in your pocket when it could just be following you.

This is something that really appeals to almost everyone. I know both my fellow companions would probably follow through with credos if it meant the got to keep some sort of super "cute" animal. With sensible limits on the pet what could go wrong?

I want everything to die, I don't see a point to this or anything really.
