My thoughts on the current development of Hafen

Postby dafels » Fri Jul 05, 2019 2:52 pm

Random stuff is being implemented right now, without the huge issues in the basics that make the game for what it is are not being fixed that make a huge impact on the gameplay:

combat to be fixed to be more based on skill instead of stats, it is absurd to have a combat where there is endless stat growth and stat based combat at the same time.
fast travel mechanics

I genuinely believe that the playercount drop would not had been so sharp if these things would had been fixed on the start of world 11 , or the devs don't even realize of how big these problems are for the playerbase. I don't think you should move on implementing new random stuff until you fix these basics

fast travel being so bad this world is prob one of the main reasons player count dropped so heavily, you barely see anyone roaming outside other than in knarrs.
the amount of time u need to travel somewhere just to be disappointed that they dont wanna come out to fight is ridiculous.
see homo sexuality trending,. do not do that.

I think you hit the nail on the head there, the new fasttravel mechanics killed it for many people. Can't even use roads to travel back and forth within your own village without gaining travel weariness. Not to mention the crazy stats you need to travel far, it's pretty much useless as it is now.

The only good thing I can think of from the huge stats needed for fasttravel is the multiple markets that have sprung up across the world. Keeping the system as it is for chartertstones and removing the limitations on roads (stats, TW) would be a good compromise Imo. Roads still need to be repaired to work and it would boost the prosperity of the separate markets while still giving the oceans meaning.

Combat has been in need of a revamp for a long time and a new, good system would surely bring a lot of old players back. I'm no expert on MMO combat systems but maybe something a bit simpler then the current system would be good to start with and then expand upon that?

While fasttravel is a quick and easy fix, I really hope the devs put combat as their next "big thing" after the client rewrite.

The "random" updates they are making are effortless and take one or two days of coding, artist creation and balancing to make. The core of the updates you're looking for take longer exactly because they, guess what, take longer to make. Be patient.

The reason why I have not been playing HnH that much recently is that the game requires way-too-much-time if you want to do anything. (Credos, animals, etc)

There is little substance to the updates, rather have none at all for a while as bigger fixes to basic mechanics are done.

This, the only downside being that all the gold subscription kids will cry on forums about their hat printer.

I don't understand the argument about drastic playercount drops. Right now it's around 200 people. Isn't it roughly the same as previous world had at this point?
