MML Support for musical instruments

Postby Archiplex » Thu Sep 05, 2019 3:04 am

TL;DR: If you've played Maplestory2 or Mabinogi (or Archeage and some other titles that use it, even a simple minecraft mod that introduces it- that music system but for Hafen

Rather than using the currently key-to-note system that's a slight bit difficult to make songs with, instruments should be able to play songs from a 'song' script (made with parchment of course). Song scripts should support a base melody and a bunch of extra harmonies (Capped at a flat rate, or maybe the cap being determined by some skills/stats, i.e lore and charisma?).

The instruments can then either be played via the key-to-note system that exists right now, or "play a song" that draws the information from the parchment, and automatically plays the notes according to the MML script.

The current instruments that exist could easily be adapted to MML, and it would provide room to add new ones in the future.

Also, it would be very cute. Please consider.

It would be so nice. I think there are already some song scripts at the Wizard's tower, but it would be more fun if it was a built in part of the game. It would give one more use to parchments, making libraries even better.

I agree that instruments could work a lot better. Main issue seems to be of course the difficultness of playing them and lack of sounds.(only 3 octaves etc.)
Another problem is the delay, but all of these could be fixed by some score system or such.

I think one of the main issues this would present is that it'd require many new instruments to be implemented, but I'd honestly be satisfied with just the base instruments that already exist, and saving effort for new ones for later.

It's just too cute not to have, though. Especially if we got some sort of 'jam' system where multiple people can queue their scores together.

I would love for music to be a real profession in this game

Selling song scrolls would be a neat thing

Sounds like scripted music vs live performance.
