Increase decay speed

Postby Fostik » Wed Dec 04, 2019 4:51 pm

Post viewtopic.php?f=40&t=57497&start=850#p843479 inspired me to make a C&I post about how slow everything decays in w11.
After one year of this world - i can definitely say that there are something wrong with decaying system.

1. Claims and villages stays too long without player activity
2. Palisades decays too long, and ugly
3. Vines are growing too randomly and grabs big spaces of pavement too slow.
Consider at least increase spread rate, but also increase time for full overgrow to not overpower it.
4. Trees are not trying to claim freed territory.
Consider them choose free territories at seeding process instead of random.

After almost year of world existence i am still can see that some bases, that was abandoned at world start still not fully taken by nature.

I completely agree.

I’d generally prefer decay stay as slow as it is now but you’re 100% right about claims lasting too long

Claims don't last any longer than they have in the past-- about 30 days for villages, 60 for personal*. Could be that someone is logging in intermittently to keep the claim up.

*It's been a while since I checked numbers. Might be off by a bit on those.

The main problem with decay is that is only happening while the map is loaded. Sadly loftar skipped the part of my suggestion where the server fast-forwards decay on map load, to make it deterministic regardless of a part of the world being visited or not.

+1 to OP, especially about wild tree re-grow

I think it is not completely true
jorb wrote:Implemented a mechanic by which map regions which have been unloaded for some time will experience increased decay until they have "caught up" to whatever amount of decay they should have received in the time they weren't loaded. The effect should be that decay, at least over time, is a function of time, and not of the map's staus as being loaded or not

This should have largely been fixed since some time ago, since decay rate is adjusted to be faster on areas that have been unloaded until it catches up to the decay that they should have accumulated.

This topic existing hints the opposite, dosn't it?

Problem is that the catching up speed obviously isn't getting quick enough to deal with areas that are only rarely visited.
