Check quality of barrel content

Hi all, first time posting on the forums here.

Would it be possible to implement a way to check the quality of barrel contents without having to use a bucket everytime? For example just using the hourglass check button on a barrel instead of scooping the contents. Having just a few barrels to check isn't really a big deal, but if You have to do that with a lot of barrels it gets kind of tedious. This is more of a quality of life improvement.

Has been suggested, but dev's apparently do not use barrels!

Perhaps an independent client developer could include this feature before it will ever be introduced into the default client ¦]

Can't be done, would still require manually inspecting the barrel. Client has no knowledge of barrel contents prior to inspection.

Would it be possible to have screen detection be a solution to that? Remembering the quality number of objects before it was dropped into the barrel, and averaging it out.

I guess that would still be too complicated to implement properly.

It could be implemented with or without server side cooperation, but it'd be susceptible to tampering, and would need a "set up" run where all barrels are checked for contents (displayed on the barrel) and quality.

Except the game tells us what is in the barrel already and labels the barrels. Would it be that much more to send the quality to the client, too?

It would be plenty would the inspect tool give the inner quality.

actually there are fluid containers that behave as barrels should: buckets and cups both show the content ql. If they do, probably also the barrels can, at least when you open them and get the UI for empty them..

Realistically, it depends. Adding the quality to the pop-up window when you inspect should 100% be easily doable server side. The important part of my quote was "would still require manually inspecting the barrel." You only know of the barrel contents prior to this because of the overlay the server sends, but it's quite a leap from an overlay to specific barrel contents. Barrels aren't their own object type as far as the client is concerned, they're just standard gobs with a res, overlays, and location.
