Infinite/Excessive Bat Cave Spawns

Postby Dogswards » Tue Jan 14, 2020 12:16 am

Hey.

Unsure if this has been posted before, I searched for both "bat" and "batcave" and saw no results.

We ran into some issues with 2 different batcaves.

The first batcave:

Entrance is covered with so many bats, that upon entrance, you are instantly knocked out. A few players had their game crash upon entrance, from the sheer number of bats. For me the audio crapped out for 10 seconds or so, after the bats knocked me out instantly.

The second batcave:

  • We managed to clear out most of it, until we reached a specific room. We fought bats there for a good 10-15 minutes, and the number of bats never went down. There were always 8 big bats. As soon as you killed one, another would spawn.
  • We tried again the next day, and once again, fought there for 10-15 minutes. Once again, the number of bats never went down. A few people got stuck and most of us ended up knocked out, which leads to the 3rd time.
  • We orchestrated a rescue operation with the help of some friends of the village. Once again, we fought there for a good amount of time, as can be seen in the time difference between the following 2 screenshots (in the last screenshot the 8th bat is behind the map). Both these screenshots are from the last rescue attempt.

Working as intended, this is how bat caves have always functioned. "But don't the bats deserve a chance to win?" -Jorb

So when we spend half an hour on the same room beating up the same number of bats, that's working as intended? Does Jorb believe that spending that much time on the same enemies counts as fun or engaging gameplay?

Yes, actually. If you can't overcome the spawn in that room then you lack the gear/stats to beat that room. Beaver dens do the same thing btw, it's just less noticeable because they have lower stats overall. Infinite spawn rooms are in fact a programmed mechanic.

First off, I seriously doubt that. We had several people in there with +1000 MC. At one point, we had 7 people there.

Secondly, if the only way the game has to communicate that one doesn't have enough stats is to infinitely spawn enemies (even when we consistently killed all the enemies in the room), then there's something wrong with the game. Could there not be a way to convey difficulty of the dungeon besides forcing people to spend half an hour in a task they will not succeed? If you are saying this isn't a bug, then I have no choice to doubt either the intelligence, or the sanity of whoever decided to make it this way.

Thirdly, if you are saying that the game spawning such high amount of bats that you instantly get knocked out and your game crashes (as in the case of the first batcave) is neither a bug, nor something that should be addressed, then I frankly don't know what to tell you.

Now you're getting it.

Same, but bat dungeons have been out for years now and they've always worked like that. People failed to complete bat dungeons last world when people had 20k strength/15k con and 10k+ UA. They're horrendously random, you can either complete the dungeon or you can't. Is that terrible game design? Of course, but still not a bug.

Well, if the Devs decide to agree that this is how they want Bat Caves to function, then perhaps this topic can be moved to the Critique and Ideas section?

and stones in that dungeon exist only to build chairs to destroy it while sitting on it to pass this cliffs...
mb u just lack of strategy, stats not mean much (ex.: U can kill mammoth with 10q spear and 1 MC)
