Darn FPS sinks are a pain in the ass if your already on a low FPS diet.

(having to set :hz and :bghz at every client start, just because those settings are not saved, is not helping either)

Myeah, not sure what to think about that. Could maybe have options to disable animation.

If that would do the trick. Yea please, of course.

What is giving you second thoughts about adding a feature like that ?

Personally I'm not sure its just the animations, I think it more the (animated) light sources that are the main FPS eaters. Well at least in my case that is.
As in probably using some effect not directly supported by the used GFX card, ergo: software simulated, ergo: high CPU/FPS eater.
