Let's design a World Map

Postby vatas » Fri Feb 21, 2020 11:36 am

Foreword before image.
*I'm not saying this would solve everything or even make a good map. I think it's worth discussing however and might inspire something good.
*Not necessarily to scale or shape. Meant to demonstrate general features that world map should, in my humble opinion, have.
*Everybody new player/wilderness spawn would be into Mega/main Continent.
*Charter Stones wouldn't teleport across Ocean (subject to change as people adapt to new world.)

*General idea is to put most people in shared continent while offering possibility to voluntarily isolate yourself on smaller landmass.
*Possibility to make minicontinents and islands less newbie-friendly with more mythical monsters or even just have the regular animals be more murder-y (or just copy Darkness from Salem.)

Feel free to post your own version or just edit mine.

this topic and unfortunately my suggestion doesn't really solve the problems, could be even argued it makes them worse with all those islands begging to be completely walled. (Although I came up right away that all islands could have at least 10 tiles of sand that gives at least some breathing room.) Also balanced by the distance you have to take with Knarr to get anywhere worth raiding. Again my idea maybe dumb-dumb but if it sparks some discussion, maybe even a better idea, Iäm willing to throw it out here.

Did the devs use my post as guideline? There's talk that everybody is spawnign on same continent and there's also this screenshot:

That is a large continent, but I'm fairly sure I'm on a bigger one. That's also central, no borders clipping it.

From that image, I will confirm not everyone is on the same continent.

Could be all the continents are wholly surrounded by ocean this world. It just happened to be there was a large central ocean last world and a moderate distance between the islands around the outside.
Opinions expressed in this statement are the authors alone and in no way reflect on the game development values of the actual developers.
