Backed up map markers

Postby MagicManICT » Mon Feb 24, 2020 6:40 pm

Before the world reset, could we get persistent server-side map marker save with the account so that if we lose our client map data, we don't lose our map markers? I had a drive failure and lost it all last summer. 100% killed my desire to play as I had a ton of information marked up: friendly traders in my area, neighbors, a wide variety of fish (with qualities) from doing fisherman credo, all of the places I had prospected for different ores (which also included interesting rock types for curios or construction color), animal and foraging quality locations, quality of natural resources.... It was six months of work that disappeared and that is only stored locally. it probably didn't help that I was 3/4 of the way through the gem hunter credo, and that was what was really driving my sessions at the time. Without the saved data of what gems I had found where, it was like I was starting over at square one.

I'm sure storage isn't a concern. We're talking a few MB per account.

I would love to see this happen! I play haven from different machines depending on where I'm at and it would be wonderful to have my markers!

on a somewhat related note could we share our maps with other people including map markers? this would be extremely useful.

Another good reason for this.

Additionally, it probably wouldn't be that hard to keep track of what map areas have been explored by a character or player. Might be a bit more effort to actually transmit that information to the player and cause some bandwidth problems, but I'm just trying to anticipate potential problems with such an addition, and it may not be an issue (haven't checked map tile file sizes).

I'd love to be able to share my markers with village mates (or anyone for that matter). To share my prospecting locations with the other village miners, I'd take screenshots and post in discord. It's a pain in the ass requiring extra work because there needed to be multiple shots, locations color coded and potentially printed out since the other person can't just click the label and get the marker highlighted, etc.

I wonder if the marker location and description could be made (exported) in a json file or the like

Loftar, so far, has left the map as "mysterious" to make knowing where about in the world you are an unknown. I'm not sure that this will happen, but it's a good idea.

<snip>
On a second thought ... export seems not that useful, considering map-coordinates are also modified.

If I recall correctly (but not 100% sure), you can transfer over your map data (including markers I think) by copying over 'AppData\Roaming\Haven and Hearth'. It's always been annoying to have to do that every time, though, so having the game just share that info between different PCs would be a welcome improvement.

Where do you transfer 'AppData\Roaming\Haven and Hearth\data' on Linux/Mac ? ;)

Even on Windows you may encounter troubles transfering parts of User account data (depending on restrictions set) - while in most cases c+p transfer simply works on Windows

i usually have client, client maps, AppData\Roaming\Haven and Hearth\data and Registry Java prefs backupped on USB stick...
