Horrible new player experience in Winter/Spring seasons

Im not sure if people have mentioned this already but if you try to make fresh alt in winter/spring you are in for a world of pain... there is nothing to get learning points from. nothing to eat so you cannot do anything requiring hard labour... no way to buy skills to do anything like base building or combat because you cannot earn LP.

all you can do is pick a few different kinds of rocks catch a ladybug and pick a dandilion an log out. if your smart you will get lumberjacking asap so that you chop down all the different trees and bushes to get LP from those as well

yeah made an alt out of boredom and going around right clicking on all the bushes and seeing nothing pop up is actually quite frustrating

since when is aiming for ultra realism ever a good thing? I honestly dont get what this adds to the game? It just cucks any new players starting out in the wrong half of the year

Fishing is still good for new characters in spring, and for much of winter. Last winter there were many areas with open water all winter long in some areas. My rivers never froze so I could cross them and there was always some shallow water too. You can get points for the fish, the filet, the roasted filet, the dried filet and the spit roasted, so you can pack on quite a few of the points you need there. If you use the Oddity map you can find clay and remove the snow and get some points from that. I found for the first test play I did starting in winter that having a wagon and wandering along pulling it worked much better than trying to build a base. The biggest difficulty was getting the food to heal. I found it important to choose where to spend my points - put nothing on Masonry until you know you have a source of clay or it will be points you can't put into another skill and it is a long wait until you can get more.

Once spring comes a new character can get crops and start farming because the www is around but I found after the anticipation spring was a let down because you used up that season's options so quickly too.

I keep telling people starting in the winter is starting on the harder difficulty level. I think it's too much grind to be fun. You really have to work for those points and have much fewer options.

The only hard part is lack of LP, and that's it. Was explaining stuff to a newer player from the scratch 2 days ago, and he was able to progress quite well, considering we started in spring. There's plenty of food to eat with good energy/hunger ratio. Both hearthlings got 10k+ LP in two days, was enough to progress. Having a large claim and leveling up stats for good q items was a problem ofc. But as long as you craft all you can, you get stable flow of incoming lp to open something new.

what about bat wings and cave forageables? those are the things you get since day 1

and if you can't really find a lot of lp things you can still hunt bats and boars to stack leather and bone glue that you are going to need later

one of the most disturbing things might be the lack of blueberries, cause they are going to be the major reason of lack of LP(roasted fox meat sux when you compare it to them, and the lack of other foregeables will result in less int and other stats too), but maybe they could add something to replace that

maybe those very basic skills should also be cheaper in winter and levelling stats could be made cheaper until you reach 30 or 50 or 100 during winter for example

and make alts so you can study on 3 characters at the same time

that's why you should make a q7 cone cow before getting inside of the fire, don't forget to quickly dig the clay before you even move the floating light
