God's Wrath

Make it so if a creature can't reach you and you use any combat move/recovery Odin throws lightning bolts at you that damage you and ignore your armor.
It could also give a new wound type called "God's Wrath" that can only be healed by ancestral worship.

another one of these bandaid ideas rather than fixing the core problem which is hunting its dog shit. this will only effect like day 1 next day youll get a horse and horse cheese them.
see homo sexuality trending,. do not do that.

Or they could just leash and rapidly heal to 100% like every other game in the world does

I think leashing and healing is a better option between the two, but both break immersion. The healing bit for me anyway. I'm no expert, please take this with a grain of salt, but the biggest issue with cheesing comes down to hitting animals outside their range (boar spear) or healing up your openings while the animals just sit there.

Animals unable to reach you automatically actually use defenses, animals that can't reach you evade melee hits. Doesn't seem unreasonable for the world's rules, takes care of the two main cheese methods I'm aware of.

Animals should have (hidden) stamina, aggro and fear meters. In this case fear meter would fill up when animal takes damage but is unable to deal it back and once it reaches enough, it will go into flee mode where it will actively path away from players.

1) Animals no being cheeseable will only matter for 2-4 weeks at most
2) If you fix cheesing animals via traps, the new meta will be just have lots of people, which seems extremely unfun
3) Marksmanship exists

Each second the animal cannot path to you could halve the quality.

Remove PvE, and PvP while you're at it, they're both toxic.
