we already have all the colors of the wind to constitute the hideous assortment of rocks that is jorb's discarded canvasses underground so sure let's make the surface look like a bag of hammered ass too

Short of a dye/paint system the only thatching I can think of that might come close is red willows. I don't think they are native to a Europe based area though.
