using water or something on walls to prospect the same layer ur on idk how you do it irl but sems wierd not to be able to get an arrow towards where to mine where your at!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Back then? Experienced miners sometimes tried to use a "sixth sense" about such things. Given the time it took to dig a new tunnel to a "potential vein of ore," a miner could spend their entire life proving themselves right or wrong. (Given the lifespan of a laborer in the iron age was probably around 30-35 years, and miners typically less than other laborers...)

Today core sampling is done to try to figure out where to dig or entire mountains are strip mined for ore. Neither was possible in iron age technology.

Looking for small nuggets of ore, like gold, in riverbeds was not an uncommon way of prospecting for ore upstream. Other than it was just poking and getting lucky.

Agree that prospecting isnt compatible with current small veins or drops of ore.
I've had old idea for that, which as i think still can be a cool mechanic for sprucecap metal
