On new players starting during winter

Postby juniormayrinck » Wed Apr 08, 2020 9:47 pm

We currently have no low per*exp curios for winter starting characters and not even a way to make clothes once snow has been completly set, so I suggest;

1. fur shirt/fur pants, can be made out of dried fur, same stats as nettle clothes
2. squirrel hat, made with squirel dried fur and tail, mechanically same as sprucecap
3. maybe a curio made with snow and sticks/seeds, buti'm not sureif its really needed given that barkboats and conecows are still easy to make for the first day even during winter

Aren't conecows unavailable due lack of cones?

I got four cabinets of pine cones for pine cone plugs before winter started.

Ya winter is not new player friendly.

1. Player spawns in
2. Player does basic quest
3. Gets seasonal locked quest. Done with questing.
4. Ok well he still has curios. Wait no, he needs higher exp*perc to see anything worth studying. Dragonflies don't spawn. Fishing eventually becomes impossible for new players.
5. Ok well at-least he has enough lp to buy skills to do stuff in the game. Oh, farming is not allowed? oh ok. Oh hunting requires agility/con/str which requires me to eat food? oh.
6. Well Ill try to find a cave to mine in. Oh I need str for that? Guess back to getting food.
6. Ok well I'll just make some food. Oh most foods for new players aren't spawning this season? oh ok. Ill just fish.. oh ya I remember. Ill just farm.. oh ya I remember.
7. I'm sure there are other things the new player will try to do and not be able to but cant think of all of them.
8. Player quits. GG good content.

Yeah...I had a villager log on today for the first time in a while....
I'm at a lost- I don't really know how to tell him to do stuff.

Possibly we need more animals during the winter to allow winter to be same what interesting and easier for noobs.

the string from hard bark was a good idea. allows for really early string gathering.
WARNING! MY ENGISH SUCKS.

not much to add to you, but, just saying i want winter to still feel harsh and that people need to prepare, but, it has to be harsh for developed players, not random sprucecaps hunting squirrels or birds with a sling. Maybe just adding seasonal skins for foxes, squirrels and bunnies would be enough if some trees were 'evergreens' and kept growing bough/cone throughh winter but at capped q10

I do not think its possible to make winter more difficult for developed players. The best fix would just to add equal amount of shit the season takes away. I think they added just a snowflake while they remove dragonflies, foragables, seeds/fruits on trees, farming, and much more. At least we can throw snowballs and sled though.

But the water freezes over and it needs a pickaxe to break it, so they can't make string either. :|
