why do entire massive lakes freeze but not water inside buckets or barrels?

or the new natural springs? or headwater? or geysers?

I agree some more stuff should freeze, but maybe not headwater and geysers, since those don't completely freeze in real life either.

Water in barrels should freeze, and same should happen with full tanning tubs. Maybe even cisterns.
Placing them indoor, or underground, should avoid freezing.

Currently winter only really affects farmers (and let's say foragers), while everyone else carries on with their tasks as usual. This would add a little twist to it.
