QoL: Automatic inventory sorting

Problem: when you try to remove a bindle/travel sack/backpack, the extra slots it gave you need to be empty, even if there would be enough space in your "standard" inventory to move them around, forcing you to rearrange items by hand.

Solution: when trying to remove such equipment, IF there is enough free space in your inventory, you should be able to do so without having to manually move all the items yourself. Your inventory should sort itself, allowing for quick swapping of equipment.

I find it very annoying when most of my inventory is empty but there is something that overlaps with the "extra inventory space" preventing me from unequipping bindles or sacks without having to manually move it.

I know it's not a huge deal, but it happens very often to me and it's an easy enough feature to add. It would truly be a QoL improvement for me

That would require careful integration with stuff "jumping" into your hand from your belt inventory when it's required for a specific task or it'll cause a lot of "I butchered a q300 bear with q100 hirdsman sword" accidents.

I think you missed the point here. He's talking about items moving in your inventory, so that when you click to remove a bindle you don't get blocked by that single piece of meat that is in the right-most column, while there is room in the rest of the inventory.
This has nothing to do with tools switching based on tasks, nor with equipment in general

You think wrong. I understand the concept. I just want this feature integrated with autoswitch while selecting the best quality tool for a specific task. I.e. so whenever a sack or any other inventory-increasing item is removed via the autoswitch (not by your own hand picking it from the paperdoll slot), the sorting process wouldn't mess with quality autoselect.

Ok, but that's a different suggestion.
Also it's impossible to know what item the player wants to use. Quick example: you want to butcher an animal, but you have both a cleaver, a stone axe, and a metal axe (or a sword) in your inventory.
Logic would suggest the cleaver, since it's made exactly for that. On the other hand, shouldn't the higher q tool be selected (in this example, let's say, the stone axe)?
As you can see, that's a different issue that deserves its own thread if you want to discuss it further (which could be interesting).

All he's asking, from what I'm understanding, is that the inventory is sorted, no matter if it's auto-switch or manual switch of extra-slot-equipment.

so there wouldn't be any

Yeah, point taken, that's a conicidental but not the same mechanic, it's integration with the proposed one is a discussion for later =)
