Correct axe from a toolbelt

Postby vatas » Sat Apr 11, 2020 6:05 pm

My character had both Metal and Stone axe on his belt. Guess which one he chose when I selected "Chop" on a tree?

Good idea, woodsman axe should be prioritized as a primary axe, metal axe/b12 as secondary etc.

Until that time the stone axe is of much higher quality and you want it to be used instead. I don't think the game should try to make those choices for you, rather just put the one you want to be used in the toolbelt.

Well for tasks where the quality doesn't matter, like chopping trees this kind of prioritization should be used.

For the example given, I think the woodsman's axe could be prioritized, and it isn't*. I think there are other cases where a specialty tool could be prioritized over other "usable" tools. In the cases of where a person does want a specific tool, such as for quality, it'll be up to them to manually equip it. At least there could be a definite order of priority rather than the "last in" tool. Yes, there would likely be people complaining about "not pulling the right tool" still, but people complain about confirmation boxes, not having confirmation boxes, etc etc etc. If it's easy to add without a lot of overhead, it's a QoL addition, and I'm sure most of us should appreciate the change.

*at least, I dont' recall it as such, and I had one on two different characters last world.

The best matching tool should always be used. There should be a toggle (like swimming or criminal acts) to switch the game from picking the tool yielding the highest quality for the selected operation to the tool yielding the highest quantity - the latter would be either the tool with the highest item bonus (metal>bone saw on making boards) or fastest operation (woodsman>metal>stone axe on chopping a tree, shovel>axe for destroying a stump).

Should be relatively easy to implement and would yield massive QoL.

b12 and woodsman axe should not be considered equal and the belt pulling out my fucking b12 is infuriating

Pretty good case for this, tbh. Do what I mean is easier said than implemented.
