If the plan is to eventually have a stable world that runs for 5 or more years, The credos essentially work as intended, giving someone a goal to work at and priorities for the entire duration playing and not something to just jump into until you have exactly what you want to do already planned and fully preppared for... I think Jorb may be trying to manage his patches and content so he doesn't have to wipe world once a year rather, but leave it to run for much longer and having even the most dedicated villages not run out of stuff to do- and having those buffs represent time worn mastery that in real life does take decades of training and experience rather than a few months of clicking.

Credo's aren't bad per-se, but rather a representation of the four years of apprenticeship training one takes after however many years of primary school a person normally takes. You can easily play with out them- but it's a way to affect how you progress in the same way certain types of school affects progress. And yes mastery training is a tedious slog, in the same way that tanning tubs take a long ass time. If Jorb wanted them to be easy, he'd make the progression to leather near instantaneous.
