Should dirt be a barrel item?

Postby FrankMcFuzz » Thu May 28, 2020 11:19 pm

When arguing with havenman's brain fart of the day, where he wants an easy way to dispose of dirt, I told him that a better solution would be to put dirt into a barrel and then just be able to hit the empty button. Since 100L fits in a barrel, and a dirt stockpile fits 250, but a dirt stockpile takes up like 4 times as many tiles as a barrel, you would essentially be able to fit 150 extra dirt in the same area. Then he asked for electricity and running cars and said that his brain is slime and flexibility.

There are several items already that are like dirt that are barrel items, like seeds, flour and chitin powders. Perhaps dirt should itself be changed to a 0.50L item.

I don't necessarily like the idea, it comes with its own pros and cons especially in the gardening space, but since the C&I section has become captive to havenman's dumb brain farts rather than worhwhile additions, I decided I would contribute.

The point is, if you disagree with me that means you agree with havenman.

Having worms treated the same way as odd tubers, and not actually fit in the dirt stockpile/barrel might work, but I reckon the only person capable of answering this question is Jorb himself. You could make all 3 fit in the barrel but of course, once an item goes in the barrel, everything that comes out will only be dirt.

It may also benefit, though, if worms are turned into a curio like most other bugs (albeit, make it pretty crappy) to justify the change if they're not dirt anymore or don't fit in barrels. Though you do have a problem with getting a full inventory of tubers and worms after surveying, depending on your luck.

Everyone has their way of getting get of dirt. Personally I just use my dirt. The point is, havenman says it's not intuitive and he would know since his brain is slime and flexibility, and he seems to think dirt disposal is worth the hassel of giving Jorb and Loftar some extra work, and even though I don't have his issue and will never use the feature, I'm all for jumping on this particular bandwagon as it rolls off a very steep cliff! I've just decided to suggest a feature that won't be inevitably utilized for griefing lol.
