Lye from Seashells/Limestone

Hey HnH/Jorb!

Was hoping to see more interaction with Lye and ways to make it based on some other realistic and immersive methods. Specifically giving limestone and most importantly fossils another use. Grind limestone/fossils at a quern, get slaked lime and boil it with ash to get lye in larger quantities. Boiling ash does work but... it's the least efficient method comparatively as it uses the natural minerals in water to take the same relation that limestone or the calcium carbonate in the fossils could provide.

When I was a kid, I thought that alchemy in this game will provide various recipes like this, will let to do some material transformation, and provide a lot of spiraling mechanics.

Honestly, this. Instead of ceaselessly pounding out thousands of wrought iron bars, you add a bit of ju ju in the mix. Make it a bit of a genetic algorithm so that no one improvement always works--one has to constantly experiment.

This recipe is a great idea to improve lye production. It should have been the recipe to begin with.
Opinions expressed in this statement are the authors alone and in no way reflect on the game development values of the actual developers.

Jorb felt inspired by this, and to add longevity to the game, did something tangentially related, added a debilitating wound to it, and made it obtusely inaccessible. Then nerfed roads again.

Look out next week for more bird houses or whatever. Buy a hat.
