How about filling Food Trough by lifting them up and right clicking on stockpiles?

I was kind of opposed to this due to potential for misclicking, but how often do you casually carry around a through?
The most actively maintained Haven and Hearth Wiki (Not guaranteed to be up-to-date with all w14 changes.)

Basic Claim Safety (And what you’re doing wrong) (I recommend you read it in it's entirety, but TL:;DR: Build a Palisade.)

Combat Guide (Overview, PVE, PVP) (Tells you how to try and escape, and make it less likely to die when caught.)

Indeed food throughs should not be liftable.

Why not use a wheelbarrow instead? To put the stockpile in the through.

You can do this^
You can also use barrels.

I wouldn't mind being able to use the trough directly, but I guess the 2 options above are the reason for which we can't use it like that.
It's a good idea though :D +1

Sound like a silly idea to me.

Should also make walking with a food through super slow (+). So that using a cart to move the food through from stockpile to stockpile would generally be faster (or for those that have one, the wheelbarrow!)

+) With potential 'strained back" injury risk, which would nullify agility and makes the hearthling walk crooked.

if we're going to get this with troughs, then let's make sure it's doable with anything that can be interacted this way.

Maybe if you lift a trough you should have to visit a quest giver to set it down? Just spit-balling here.
