An addition to alchemy could be the ability to produce extra pure gold; for example, treating nuggest. Extra pure gold could have boost to item bonuses/effects; like 20-50%. But it could come at the price of resources (50-90% could be gold is lost upon the treatment), uses mercury (quality should be important), and the product could be softcapped by PSY*INT*LORE.

inb4 jorb adds this step and it's required to get metallic gold at all.

More seriously, gold is one of the easiest metals to smelt and purify due to it's low melting point and being almost non-reactive*, so it probably wouldn't make too much sense.

*Gold reacts to some halogens and a certain acid mixture, but these don't really exist in nature.

Could also consider adding lead as an ore and the alchemy related to that that we all know!

From one point of view, gold sink mechanics are really required.
From the other, don't really think that gold items should be buffed, especially in that bad way - it will just make an another mandatory, and creating something with not pured gold will be waste of gold.

I'd rather see some more uses of this metal, as well as silver and rose gold.
