Non-fungible tokens / cryptogaming

Non-fungible tokens / cryptogaming

Postby Ants » Tue Feb 16, 2021 9:57 pm

What if non-fungible tokens were added to the game? Here's some pages explaining how game devs are turning certain game assets into tokens you can store on the blockchain:

https://www.coindesk.com/what-are-nfts
https://nonfungible.com/
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Non-fungible_token

They should be something that wouldn't impact gameplay, of course. Something like the hats we currently have. It would bring publicity to H&H and would give players the opportunity to openly turn their investments into real money instead of resorting to the not-so-secret discord hat black market.

Yes, we need also more AI, AR, big data science and ML into the game.

The most actively maintained Haven and Hearth Wiki (Not guaranteed to be up-to-date with all w14 changes.)

Basic Claim Safety (And what you’re doing wrong) (I recommend you read it in it's entirety, but TL:;DR: Build a Palisade.)

Combat Guide (Overview, PVE, PVP) (Tells you how to try and escape, and make it less likely to die when caught.)

Sorry, but isn't blockchain just a super safe and decentralized technology of storing data/log/transaction history, and nothing more?
What is actually a reason to replace game project data flows with blockchain? Or is there some other application area?
I'm starting to fear that because of lobbying closer to the end of 21 century people will be unable to shit without blockchain.

TL;DR: on the video I linked above, theoretically you could create in-game items that not even the devs could duplicate.

This is a common misconception. It's designed to have some safety factors, yes, but depending on what you mean by 'safe,' I can say anything from "Yes, but you have to pay attention to this" to "No, that's a completely wrong assumption/use/whatever."

As far as preventing duplication, it is harder, but not impossible.

It's also extremely computationally intensive. Blockchain is why video cards are about 2-3x the prices they should be. Please stop encouraging its use. :|

Increased price of graphics cards is the smallest problem. A way more bigger issue is the electricity used by them when they are running on 24/7.
They run on the cheapest electricity possible, which often is(with a few rare exceptions), not too surprisingly, coal. Mining bitcoins consumes more electricity than many countries, like netherlands and filippines!
It's just terrible waste of resources.

If we divided amount of co2 emissions by transactions, the amount from just 1 transaction would be equivalent to driving like 2000+ kilometres by a car.

And its well known fact that burning coal causes all kinds of emissions which is directly related to certain types of deaths.. Bitcoin literally kills people! (though so does writing this message, because some of the electricity is produced by coal for this computer)

i doubt devs can take advantage of tokens out of a blockchain, i bet they need RL money to do their magic.
