Rune Magic

Magic is one of those game things I think should be abstract and something you work at. We have gilding, ancestral worship, and village level items. Maybe now is the time for rune magic. Going with the games northern theme I think it fits.

My idea is only one rune per item and they should be themed to the item. i.e. You want to enchant a sword, the item is a weapon of war so only an offensive rune can be used. With limitations I think runes could be a fun addition.

The runes should be a mix of gilding and ancestral worship. You must have the accumulated faith to make one but the rune requires a certain item to complete it.

Unlike gilding and ancestral worship I think runes should be more varied. Not just equipment but maybe claim blessings. Personal claims only. i.e. blessing of harvest. hunting... Not as powerful as village items but more a favorable boost, maybe even only temporary.

The mysticism of the old world had faith, worship, fetish', prayers, and runes/blessings. I think if we kept it reasonable and not game breaking it could add nice flavor.
