Make dreamcatchers actually catch dreams

Postby Liss12 » Tue Apr 06, 2021 11:06 am

Alright fellas this idea feels dumb mechanically-wise even for myself, but its just crazy enough to fit in H&H. What if dreamcatchers would not just produce beautyful dreams passively, but actually catch dreams when a player is sleeping neraby? Dream type might vary depending on character's credos, stats and skills and most valuable dreams needed for most potient magic would come from high psy characters.

If it was a flavour curio it'd be neat. But if it's required for anything meaningful that would be an unfun mechanic.

Dreamcatchers should absolutely interact with sleeping hearthlings in some way.

Yea this would need to be kept as a flavor curio, and I think it makes more sense to affect the dream off the players current various statuses, not his stats. For example, being maxed on travel weariness could give you a Wearisome Dream. Having active scents out could give you a dream of blood or guilt. Having a decent portion of your hhp missing from wounds could give a dream of pain, hunger for hunger dreams, etc. That sort of thing sounds fun but its probably more work than its worth.

I really like this idea for an additional thing, rather than part of the typical grind.

It would be pretty cool if they could be curios and/or gildings. Maybe even some interaction with hearth magic! Similar to how the Hunter credo now decreases the Exp cost of Quell the beast, if you got a "Hunter's Dream" from one sleeping in a nearby bed it could be expended to lower the exp cost further, or allow someone without hunter to get the same discount.

Loads of possibilities!
