Longship Houses?

Postby Geoffro0 » Sun Apr 18, 2021 8:54 pm

So I have been inactive for many years and I have come back to the wonderful sight to see that ships have been added to the game. Although I have yet to sail on one. I really want to explore with a vessel but I will have to wait.

Anywho, I had the idea that it would be neat to be able to convert your knarr and Snekkja into a longship house, Maybe the Knarr Longship house would be bigger than the Snekkja. That way your have a temporary place to stay and maybe less chance of getting your boat stolen. I am aware that there is a way to fast travel with your boat back to your dock but it'd be nice to have a more nomadic style of sailing. I have still yet to experience sailing so Im not sure if this is a worthy suggestion or already been suggested or compatible with existing mechanics.

Maybe to transport the longships from water to land, the player must build a structure or just lay down some logs for the boat to roll on.

I could see this being pretty complicated but Its be very very neat.

Im really proud to see where this game has gone from when I first discovered it. Keep up the great work Devs!

Ship houses would be AWESOME. Imagine being able to take a home with you wherever you go. In fact, the wagon style of ships is kinda dumb. It should be changed so you go below deck or something, and have a small area for cupboards.

Early world exploit: Put your hearthfire inside a cave, then hold shift to position a claim right in front of a cave. After 8 hours the claim will be unbreakable. Since your hearthfire is inside the cave, you can still get back inside, and leave, but nobody will be able to enter, effectively making you unraidable for the first 3-7 days. Enjoy

It seems something fairly neat, and could work similar to how Wagons encampments do now.

I was thinking something like this.

I was more thinking that the current Snekkja and Knarr would be converted into a temporary land structure. Maybe if/when Cogs are implemented the Cogs themselves could always serve as a indoor house.

I wasnt suggesting a cabin for the Snejkka and Knarr. I was suggesting a structure that is made of the ship and can return to ship if need be.

EDIT: But the longhouse structure would be lost when the ship is converted back to ship form.

You were wrong to think this is better than Bob Doles idea. It is a good thing Bob Dole was here to make it better.
