A new use for charterstones

It would be nice if we could bring back charterstones and replace their old usage with allowing you to port directly to the thingwall that the charterstone is in. It would still makes us go outside as jorb said he wanted and not allow direct teleportation between villages but it would be a nice convenience thing to get to the nearest thingwall if your village happens to be far from the thingwall. It would also bring back the ability to spawn alts at your village more easily without needing to build a wilderness beacon

But it would make traveling more 100% safe which is not nice! For spawning characters I think it was stated that it may be added back.

* You can port in the direction of any charterstone, from anywhere, regardless of known thingwalls.
* Doing so ports you one thingwall at a time and provides a 10s travel sickness debuff where you cannot port again. You are vulnerable to ganks during this 10s period.
* You may do this regardless of how much travel weariness you have, but it will still fill your bar like normal.
* Doing this imparts a homesick debuff that lasts until you either hearth or arrive at the charterstone thingwall.
* While the debuff is active, you cannot learn thingwalls and leaving the radius of one will hearth your character unless you are in combat wherein it will auto hearth as soon as you've lost aggro.
* Optional: You do not have to travel one-at-a-time if you possess the will and travel weariness to do so.

Something like this would still enable the travel necessary for community projects while also imparting a juicing amount of risk onto the traveling hearthlings as they phase in and out between thingwalls similarly to how ships travel between stargates in Eve.

Isn't that what roads are for?

Re-add charterstones but make them a smaller version of realm buffs that let you select/acquire minor buffs inside your village.

Building and maintaining roads that span every corner of the world just to enable everyone to get to one community market is unrealistic.

That's what thingwalls are for. The road is getting from your base to your local thingwall.

That requires you to know and discover every thingwall between you and the market. It would be one thing if the thingwalls were easily discovered, but I've noticed some are in completely unconnected river systems and a pain the ass to find, so it's not as simple as "travel to the market by boat once, use thingwalls afterwards". I guess it might be worth it for a very active player to do this, but for your average hermit or sprucecap you can't really expect them to do this especially if they live on a completely separate continent. This will be a huge hinderance for markets or other public, community projects because most people don't have time to wander around every province trying to find its thingwall just to use a public market.

Due to how thingwalls work there is 0 requirement to do it in one go. You can nab 1-2 thingwalls, TP home. That's completely achievable for any hermit that's insane enough to solo haven. Assuming the thingwalls are mapped (they will 100% be mapped at some nearish date I'm certain), each thingwall in the chain should only take 10-20 minutes to grab.

That aside: I'm of the opinion that localizing the community to some degree gives the world more room for more than a single monolithic entity controlling everyone. Being completely at the whim of a single faction with no recourse has been the norm in many worlds. Thingwall travel is actually a bit too convenient for that imo. We're going to see a single market/kingdom "win" the world.
