lock that makes gates openable without key

lock that makes gates openable without key

Postby SnuggleSnail » Fri Apr 23, 2021 3:53 am

pretty sure it's been suggested before, but:

me want internal gates anybody with perms can open
me no want deal with keys
me no trust willagers to not be retarded and lock something then lose the key

COOL SOLUTION:
New kind of master key that when used to set a wooden lock, whatever you lock it won't require a key to interact with - just the usual rummaging. MAYBE make it so it can only apply to visitor gates so nabs don't fuck themselves, but also whatever if the nabs fuck themselves

P.S: round pole gates are gross b4 some retard suggests them

I feel like any argument made for this suggestion is also an argument against the entire lock system as it exists in haven.

It's ugly, clunky, and causes weird things like roundpole gates inside constantly open Vgates as a mechanic. "Can't we just use a perms system instead of keys?" can be applied to pretty much any gate ingame imo. Players who know what they're doing constantly have any meaningful keys alt vaulted.

Boat keys make sense from a pvp point of view. Probably don't want to get rid of pvp deaggro house keys, since every building would just get locked at that point which is silly.

But yeah, gate keys are a pretty gross mechanic we've just grown to accept. I should have clarified that I meant gates specifically.

Ah yes, obtuse systems that lead to unwitting basic mistakes in a permadeath game are a great source of fun for everyone involved! And adding in an additional set of locks under specific circumstances isn't turbo autism either.

But I'll take any suggestion that removes the need for Vgate+roundpole grossness that is meta atm.

of which, i honestly dont think is a bad argument.

i posted something about this over at viewtopic.php?f=48&t=70455#p878626

but yeah, ever since visitor gates were made a thing and locked houses were introduced (even before them really), there's just zero reason to keep the current system.

All it does is encourage people to make several ugly hacks in order to be the most secure you can be: in the past it was airlocks, then it was airlocks with roundpole fences, now it's that as well as airlock systems with locked homes to deaggro in

i just fail to see the point in it all; back when we had a more hardcore system, but taking inch-by-inch steps away from it has just degraded the entire system; it's not hardcore like it used to be, but it's not intuitive or easy to use either. it just has a whole lot of jank and clunky aspects that need to be worked around, which basically only seems to harm new people into the game. you don't even gain anything by stealing someone's mkey, you just gain the ability to fuck up their base forever and that's about it

Lock openable without key? Pretty sure that's in the game already.

It's called "no lock".

So, like, what. It makes it one way but without a key, that's all you're saying?

openingable from both directions without a key, still bound to a masterkey to prevent it from being locked with another lock. Kinda like how ppl treat roundpoles
