One simple thing that Salem has over haven is more depth added to the simple task of butchering

in Salem you have to get multiple levels/variations of butchering type skills and tools that allow you to cut bigger and better chunks of meat from animals, and different skills that allow you to obtain more byproducts and usable viscera from animals as well.

I would absolutely love to see some of these features ported in to Haven & Hearth.

Here is an example of what you can obtain from a simple Deer when you have all the best butchering skills and tools in Salem.

Since Haven has a lot more of a fleshed out eating and recipe system with variable ingredients (I think), we could easily accommodate such a system, adding variable meat cut types to existing recipe and even including some new ones too. Meat shreds for kebabs, new stews for meat shreds, nice Steak cuts as better variables for frying pan recipes, big roasts as thing you cook like a kebab and slice up afterwards, or just mega-energy meals with roasts?? So many fun possibilities.

Also, it 's always fun to have more rare and interesting curios and shit in the game. So many hooves, horns, beaks, organs and general viscera could be their own rare and interesting curio drops, or get simple recipes for jewelry and other weird craftable curios like the new snake necklace or the stuffed bat.

Hunting and butchering is a major part of village life, so it would be pretty cool if there was a more rewarding and fun depth to it outside of the odd lackluster rarity like dark heart and tumour, and it was be exceptionally more interesting to see some deeper levels of meat variation too.

If they are added with a decent purpose and intent, I'm all for it. Otherwise, I dislike the thought of more inventory clutter...

Been saying for years, this was one of the only truly Good Ideas™ from Salem. I'd like to see a return of something like Darkness, too, or even like 'Civilization Level' from legacy.

It's all going to go into the meat grinder anyway. Some of the meat-based recipes would need some rebalancing as well.

if youre planning on adding this, i hope you add it fleshed out and not in a bandaid form that every big village with 100s of animals to chop up will hate...

I think it's worth noting that while Salem added Brains, they ditched the entrails/intestines that Haven has. (Aside from not requiring intestines, Salem's sausage implementation sounds neat.)

Salem uses weight limit instead of inventory grid, for context. You can temporarily over-encumber yourself while butchering but then you run into the problem of Salem generally having worse containers -in Haven you only need 8 (fresh) boards to make a 8x8 cupboard, Salem's CB requires glue and glass! They did later add more rustic variant that only requires dried boards and nails.

I love that idea. Salem had an amazing sense of excitement when going hunting and butchering. Every animal was a potential jackpot . Of course I am talking about animals that could drop one of the best slotable items in the game like bears for example.
First 6 months of Salem I didn't had a bear paw. And then I got 2 in one day! Do you realize how excited that makes a person?
Haven is all great, I am not shitting at the butchering as it is. But for god sake, make it exciting. Give it some spice. I want to want to butcher every god damn cave louse regardless of quality just to get that amazing item that has 1/500 chance to drop.
I wanna wait for my boys and be like "Look what this motherfucker got last night" and they go "wooooah that's so rare. Gratz on that!"
Stuff like that would be very nice. Get an item that's literally the most valuable thing that I posses, and not because I acquired through grinding and saving up, but because I was just plain fucking lucky. Now that's exciting.
