The first snowball of ideas

Postby Hulex » Mon Apr 26, 2021 12:06 pm

Hello, my name is Alex, today I will present some of my ideas that have all been thought in depth so that they can be implemented in terms of programming.
Although it is not easy to set up I say that they will turn the game into a much more organic and exciting game.
I'll start with:
'I hid behind a tree and survived!'

I feel sick when I see miles of palisades appearing overnight. My idea is that they should be very difficult to build (dozens of full trees for one title), any form of protection would take a long time and effort, so this would stimulate the teams or families to build and protect a small warehouse for the beginning. More chanches for tresspasing and theft system(roque like) would be much more exciting. Also this actions limited to fewer theft (few thefts per day / time / status related with consequences the more it is exceeded). Also this will stimulate people building a head quarter and people inside of a village working harder on his/her ambition to became mayor: 'maybe I will steal the actual mayor crown(etc)'. We all know we have like 3-4 characters so we should have implemented a family group and inside a city we will have families(houses).

I want to know if I created a nice image for you in the hidden corner of your mind and if you think it's a good idea I would like to debate it.
Kind regards.

I have never heard the Romans, for example, building palisades around whole fields of cultivated wheat.
Although they were experts and famous for their rapid construction, it took months and the work of hundreds or thousands of soldiers.
These places were more like places of retreat as a last resort in case of an imminent attack. 'An so we quickly took in, only the important things and what could be saved. But most important we survived!'

Buy one tile of palisade:
'Summon the force of 100 workers' - build one palisade title at 10% of its cost and energy just 0.99 $

*Criminal spotted!*

None of what you're thinking of would happen. Increasing the cost of palisades, especially if the main change is it costs more wood, it would lead only to the following:
- Forests becoming barren landscapes, because people would still want to build palisades and would chop down EVERYTHING.
- Armies of vault-alts made to keep every item you own safe, until you can finish your big wall of China. They already do this, it would just exasperate the problem.
- Villages being slightly smaller, by pushing everything close together, completely destroying any chance for design choices and making your life a living hell when you try to move around with a cart.
- More people would build underground, since they are harder to spot and to reach, giving them more time to build the palisade around it.
- In order not to get murdered by the first guy on a horse, you'd see early settlements having 5 or 10 rows of stone walls, in order to have time to logout if someone approaches and starts bashing them.

The only people suffering from this would be hermits and newbies, while all those with actual valuable stuff would get their nice huge palisade as always, just using ore alts or bots to get the wood they need.

Moderation note: please don't double post. If nobody else has replied, then it's just as easy to edit your prior post.

FWIW: this is a video game, not a reality simulation, despite what some of us would like to think. (Yes, I include myself in that 'us' a bit too often.)
Opinions expressed in this statement are the authors alone and in no way reflect on the game development values of the actual developers.

Palisades already require a resource that takes 30-40 hours to obtain, minimum. And people who only play the game casually should be allowed to have palisades too. Haven is not a job, and people should be allowed to solo it.

People build these in mines, you know. Needing to cart 40+ logs down into the mine, which could be dozens of trips through already fiddly cart pathfinding, would make me wanna afk in a midge-heavy swamp on top a candleberry right next to a huge faction's base.

I don't think it's a great design that a player goes from 0% safety to 95% safety as soon as their palisade dries, but this ain't it. Stuff like this just hurts hermits and everybody else will just have to create more labor alts to chop trees.

We solved the problem of spam of new characters to help deposit or cutting trees in another topic ... by adding to Wilderness Beacon - new item 'oath of first communion' at 3-5 $.
The fact that all trees are cut down thus remaining desolate places sounds more like human behavior, why hide this aspect.
I do have a friend its base is crowded due to the first tranche of quality trees.

P.S. Sorry about multiple post didn't wanted to prezent everything in a big lump.

Wait you want to make the wilderness beacon cost money? That's the worst idea I've ever heard. People would no longer be able to play with their friends, or have any alts.

Because it sucks? also we had a similar problem back in the days...
Consider that now we are early world, so everything is fresh. But what would happen in 6 months? If a new player starts playing he has to walk for days to find a single tree?
That would just ruin the game.
