Grace period for switching weapons at the start of combat

There could be a grace period at the start of a battle, allowing you to change weapons without incurring the 5s (or was it 10s? idk) cooldown thing.
This period could last between 5 and 10 seconds, and ending if you use a combat move.
Maybe grace period could only happens when you are not the instigator of the battle, to prevent someone from always starting fights via shooting an arrow then switching weapon.

This would greatly help for when you get ambushed while mining, and generally by other players too i guess.

Sounds reasonable to me, good idea. I think a case could also be made for the ability to associate a certain weapon as their 'primary' or 'secondary' weapon for each combat deck. When combat starts, the highest quality primary weapon is equipped automatically, or the secondary one of if there is no primary weapon. This way you could have a sword in your belt as a miner, and when aggroed by a slime it would be equipped. If you are doing a sword shield combo it will equip them both(primary/secondary). Could be neat.

But combat always starts on distance, you can swap weapons and keep distance before enemy will come close to you

Not true for underground PvE. Some enemies can suddenly spawn from a tile you just mined out, and boreworms can suddenly pop up in front of you (surrounding you if there's two).

To me, this is the bigger issue. When combat starts, while moving to avoid incoming attacks, you need to unequip whatever is in your hand and drag your sword over to your hand equipment slot to be able to use any of your sword moves. Carefully, because a slight misclick will drop it and the enemy will immediately move over it preventing you from picking it back up. (And if you then happen to get KOed and have to hearth back, you lose it forever.) Shift-click sends the sword back to your belt rather than into your hands, and there's no right-click 'equip' flower menu option either, you can only manually drag it to the equipment window (or, for custom clients, the specially displayed hand slot). I don't care about the exact implementation but I really would like an easier way to equip my sword during combat.

just no. people have been asking for pickaxes too count as weapon for mc for an long time now, and having an shield deck while mining is generally asking too get hurt.
just because spawning slimes that encircle and block you sucks .

but you shouldnt be able too hide weapons more easily. in fact i´d like weapons on belts being visible .
and being ambushed while you havent drawn your weapons should punish you. thats why you ambush people that don´t have weapons out.

besides that. you have at least 1,6 seconds from people showing up on your minimap and them being in range too aggro you. if you havent sprinted in the other directions. or drawn your blade and rushed at the icon you already missed your move.

"But muh hidden weapon!" seems like such a weak reason not to have the suggestion.

I'm pretty sure sufficiently malicious actors just have scripts for insta-switching. I know they do for coracles.
