Pemmican

I think it's finally time we add pemmican and some other hardcore energy foods.

Pemmican is considered the original survival/energy food and consists of many thing we have ingame already.

We could add the ability to dry regular meats on drying racks and berries and fruits on a herbalist table, mix it with rendered fat and create a very low hunger/low fep extremely high energy food.

Allowing dried meats would obviously open the door for jerky, and I'm sure died fruits would have other smart implementations as well.

Other things to consider

Hoosh

basically just looking for a new top-tier energy food, the FEPS are not important here

+1 as an Archeology major it really does surprise me how Pemmican has escaped this game given its importance for stone age folk. Some hunts were done with the expressed goal of mass producing Pemmican especially for high population tribes with 100+ people because it was pretty much the only way for people in cold weather climates to survive their winters. Native Americans would kill sometimes more than 40 buffalo in a single hunt just to make enough pemmican to survive their whole winter or a large portion of it, Scandinavians would often times hunt reindeer and elk to the point it would cause them to start migrating north for the winter to avoid scandinavians and pretty much everywhere else in the world Pemmican was a food so central it dominated the attention of the local human populace for preparing for harsh climate survival so it does baffle me that it has completely escaped this game.

Drying meat wouldn't necessarily even need to be a feature to make pemmican, the Native Americans would just take all the animal fat and smother berries and meat in it until the animal fat solidified and it would preserve the berries and meat independant of any need for dried food.

Also with pemmican in mind, when are we going to get Ludfisk/Lutefisk in this game, because its another harsh survival dish which makes use of fat for preservation despite being utterly disgusting (those of you with Scandinavian families you know what i am talking about)

I'm usually opposed to adding silly foods, but this food idea is not silly.

It's, honestly, a great idea. More shit besides porridge would be cool.

true, but jerky itself is an ancient traditional method of preserving meats for winter and hard times, I think it would be an excellent addition to the game, I would even welcome the excel-sheet version of it that includes smoking and spicing

any traditional survival foods are an instant +1 in my books

Pemmican is cool, but serves no purpose in H&H where food do not spoil and you don't even need to eat daily to survive. Roasted meat should be energy food, its just useles and broken right now.

The main idea is to sort of add a side-industry within the vast array of cooking techniques that focuses on energy.

There are some major energy foods but they are pretty random, low-end foods.

Pemmican could be the stepping stone we need in to drying meats, and along with the new-ish implementation of smokers, we could have a lot of interesting variable jerky-type recipes that allow us a more customized selection of control in the feps and production of energy foods.

Cooking is nauseance as it is, adding more foods will make it only more tedious and dependant on shubla's spyware. However if it was somehow overhauled i would vote for smoking meat and jerky.

Yeah, I tend to agree, but shubla's spyware is not the only tools available thankfully.

That being said, I have had a mining char for many many worlds and the amount of energy food available that isn't a burden on the FEP management is pretty low.

Even without a cooking overhaul, which I agree we could use, I would still be in favour for another excel sheet of trash if it meant there was a semi-customizable selection of energy foods for various high-energy tasks.
