As with gardening, adding things normally done outside the village into village production obsoletes gathering them in the wild. The best way to do this would be to add a domestic variant similar to tamed animals. E.g. mallards become domesticated ducks and allow both variants to serve different purposes.

Nobody bother about hunting mallards anyway, they are somewhat tricky to catch and their meat is meh. I dont think i ever saw a person hunting them if it wasn't for a quest. New type of producible egg would be interesting tho. RN people rarely use anything but chicken eggs since there is no reliable source of other eggs, and dove keeping turned out to be a damn joke.

Mallards can be neat with their feathers being curios and all the new bird recipes added. However, by the time you have Snekkja to easily catch them in masse without alt or two-person hijinks, you usually have other stuff to make for food and curio.
